Blood Bath is the story of the last years of Elizabeth Batrory, the Hungarian Countess accused of murdering children and bathing in their blood, a major contributor to the vampire myth. Confined in her tower she pleads her innocence to the audience.

"Pool of Blood"

The deck raked downward into a pool of "blood," which in this case was a viscous concoction of dish soap, paint, chocolate sauce, and peanut butter.

Wall Treatment

The paint treatment had chalkboard paint mixed in to allow for Elizabeth the better draw on the walls as she descended into madness.

The goal of the design was to create an immersive environmental playing space. There was little to differentiate the stage from the audience as the ghosts sat with the audience and interacted with them directly while tales of their executions where told.

Projection Screen Detail

Built to suggest the original Tyburn gallows, a triangular structure better suited for mass executions.

Sand Table

The projections were created using a backlit table covered in sand with a camera mounted above. As I drew in the sand it was projected live on to the screen creating flowing, ever changing scenery to fit the mood of each scene.
